We have a skip

The skip is the captain of the team and determines strategy. Based on the strategy, the skip holds the broom indicating where the player throwing must aim ("calling the shot"). When it is the skip's turn to throw, the vice-skip (usually the third) holds the broom. The skip usually throws the last two rocks of the end, however some teams have the skip throwing in other positions.

I learned the basics in 45 minutes and sliding in 2 hours. Yehey!

When sliding out, one must start with one shoe (the one with the non-slippery sole) against one of the hacks. I'm a right hander so i will use the left hack.

Kalabasa rocks

Today, June 23rd, I attended curling open house at Vacaville Ice Sports. Curling season is over but in this part of Northern California its just getting started. I learned that the rock is made of granite and almost exclusively from Scotland, it weighs 42 lbs, super bigat, which reminds me of giant kalabasa (squash) when I was a kid growing up in the Philippines.
